my attempt at blending the arts I cherish

sentimental fool

i walk the hallowed halls again touching the cool white walls now and then. i glance down at the pew were i once spent a nap period. it’s evening time, i’m not often here at this hour of the day, and the setting sun is pushing through the great trees outside to land in the wide windows. i take my time to slowly amble down the little corridor… in my mind and heart this place is not empty. it’s full of three previously graduated classes who have now gone into the world; my brother and i are representatives of two of them. it’s full of laughter, fluttering artwork, jokes, songs, someone rushing, knowledge, friends, siblings, painted faces, poetry, guitars, and grand tutors…

every time i return to this little home schooled high school of mine, this breathless kind of happiness wells up within me and the air all about me is thick with memory. it’s magical here. the one prayer i utter as i reenter the grounds is one of unending gratitude. a great part of who i am now was cultivated here and the relationships i shared in will always have a special place in my heart. i am eternally blessed because of learning, loving, and living life here.

thank you, father, from the bottom of my heart.

oh how my heart leaps at these words…i can SMELL this precious place. hear it. hear you. see it. see all of you. Thank you for expressing what i feel so often. When my heart is weary or lonely or thirsty I think of this place, this time, these very particular people and I am refreshed, lifted, enlivened again. Sometimes the memories are too precious, too dear to hold without tears.
