Where you stand is where you belong, that place you’ve been looking for all along

Silence Is What Gets Us

The Past hangs around too long, whispering of

birthdays, lonely minutes in an office chair,

and underdeveloped morals.

Wooing us right back into

rooms and moments that we had

thought we’d buried deep.

He takes us by the shoulders and shakes

regret into our bones, until we

are left angry in empty

houses. But you and I,

we grip each other’s

hands and nod. For we know

with one whispered “that’s just the way

the world turns,” He and sickly

Nostalgia will leave, staying away for

a time. Their cunning deceits

are squelched by contentment

and an anchored heart.

big thanks to both of you for 1) reading and 2) leaving a kind note. both of these bring joy to my heart.
